evening runs

lately i've been running again and tonight i felt infinite.

this is a great thing. nothing hurt and i felt like i could run a marathon right then and there. i would like to thank helen jane long for the music which surprisingly made me feel like a graceful champ instead of a dying old woman.

sometimes it's nice to listen to piano or classical music to keep a steady pace and calm mind. either way get her whole embers album, it's stupendous.

i have once again been trying to make running a habit of at least every other day and i am so thankful for the longer daylight hours because sometimes i simply can't get up and going until almost nine pm and that is basically the deadline.

today i definitely cut it short and payed for it by running through the dark dark woods in a paranoid fashion and dodging quite a few swarms of tiny bugs that enjoy going into every orifice of my face.

i would also like to take a second and thank mother earth for our wonderful weather that is cool yet sunny and warm when you want it!

speaking of new habits...they're so hard. especially the ones worth doing. i really think the key for me has been to not take them so seriously but keep going back to it even when i don't follow it "that one time". i try and remind myself of the reasons i want to run but even so starting is the hardest part.

steps to creating a habit:
1. start
2. never give up
3. repeat steps 1 & 2 until achieved

silly but so true. sometimes all you gotta do is never give up. for example, if making running a habit first you need to find a good path, some good running shoes, choose the same time of the day to go exercise and some comfy clothes. so start with walking if you are not much of a runner, then walk faster and longer, then start slow jogs if you're feeling good, continue until you can't but keep moving and complete the route always.

some days will be better than others but always go when planned and at least walk when you cannot do anything else. find something or someone to motivate you and remember it when you feel like you simply do not want to get out of your comfy house and run. i do it all the time, you are not alone.

what i usually do is go around 7 or 8 pm (i am not a morning person) and after i've had sufficient time for my dinner to digest. then i do a brief five minute stretch, grab the ipod and run the winding path that loops right back to my house. it's about a good 4 mile run nothing crazy and i absolutely love it.
